A short time ago I went along to my best friend's gig and saw him ripping out a mean guitar solo up on stage. At the after-show party I saw all the chicks - and some of the guys - buzzing around him. It was then I decided... I want to be that guitarist!
You see all my life I've always wanted to learn how to play guitar, even if it's just the basics. It just looks so cool and I really want to get started especially as all my friends tell me it's so great when you learn to play properly so you can jam with other people.
So the only drawback is - well, you probably already know - it takes such a long time that after about a week I'm ready to give up.
To be honest, patience isn't my strong point. I find that trying to learn anything frustrates me. And, unfortunately, I find learning to play guitar particularly frustrating.
So, what methods have I tried so far? Well I've been having lessons from a private tutor a few blocks away. But I'm already thinking this is way too expensive and, as time goes by, he'll be costing me a fortune. After all is said and done, you never know I could end up having loads of lessons and still not be sure whether I'm any good at the guitar.
As well as that having a private tutor can be a pain. The lessons are difficult to fit into my busy lifestyle what with my work and all the other stuff going on in my life most nights. It soon became clear to me that I couldn't take on some other guy's schedule to find time to learn to play guitar. There must be a better way to learn, and I had to find it.
So I began with the traditional read only guides and the other books. Well, for me, it felt like I'd gone back to school or worse. If you've tried them you'll know they are difficult to understand and fathom out what you're supposed to do.
I talked to some friends of mine who were playing in bands. It was then I began to realise that it's a massive leap from playing solo in your bedroom to jamming along with your mates, or playing in a band. And most guides and solutions don't help with timing and rhythm, and that's what you need to learn.
Eventually, I was reading an online guitar magazine when I came across something I read about in a review. It's a program called Jamorama - yes, I know, with a name like that...
So I decided to give it a go. I bought it and now I'm ready to review it for you. If you're like me, and you want to find an easier and quicker way to learn to play guitar faster and more easily, then before you decide to buy you may want to know my thoughts on this guide.
The reasons I decided to give it a go:
There are Step by Step Lessons,
it includes all levels from Beginner to Advanced,
The tutor is Ben Edwards of Degrees K band - he's an experienced and highly acclaimed guitar tutor,
The software is highly acclaimed and recommended by the top guitarist publications,
The software claims to teach you by text and video, as well as jamming along with the tracks…
And I really liked the cool looking bonuses - which cost a lot of money from my local guitar store - such as a metronome and guitar tuner.
Why you should read this review
The reason I wrote this review is so you can see for yourself, before you decide to get it, whether Jamorama is really any good. For example - does the software work?
As well as that, I'll be testing the effectiveness of the teaching modules and seeing what sort of learner will benefit the most.
Finally, I'll look at whether it's value for money. I hope that all of this will help you make a better decision about this guide for learning guitar before you spend any cash on it.

EXACTLY WHAT DOES JAMORAMA
GIVE YOU
To help you learn more quickly, Jamorama is packed full
of really useful video lessons, software games and play along
jam tracks.
In essence, it uses a combination of teaching and visual learning,
as well as improving your timing by giving you tracks to jam
along to.
After using their training material, Jamorama claim that you'll
be able to play virtually ANY song by ear
It also includes step-by-step lessons, sound files, games and
other resources. I have to admit, when I think what I paid for
it at the time, that’s certainly a pretty chunky amount
of material and software for the money.
They have a library of the most commonly used chord progressions
and lots of special training techniques to fast track beginners.
Also - a must l for more "technical" learners - there's
a useful section on how to read guitar "TAB"…
Jamorama also teaches you a whole load of techniques, from picking
strumming styles, percussive strum, staccato strum, deadening,
tricked out scales, hammer-ons, transposing keys, vibrato, pull
offs, palm muting.
And what's really great, if you want to play in a band, is they
give you these step-by-step jamming lessons.
They also give you other advice and pretty neat tips - like
how to find really cheap guitars at lower than retail price.

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS
When you first download the guides and open the software inside Jamorama, it's obvious to see that you're getting massive value for your money.
Jamorama's material is all quite simple to download inside member's area. I personally found that the software runs smoothly and is bug free.
When I cranked up the training material, I thought this guy is good at making things very easy to understand.
As well as that, on the videos there are crazy angles of him playing guitar so that you can see exactly what he's doing The videos are really well made - they explain the basics very clearly and are very professional looking.
All the training is dead simple to follow along - it's some of the best I've seen. However, don't get me wrong, there's still a lot to learn - and Jamorama doesn't make any unrealistic claims like it'll teach you how to play like Clapton over night in one easy lesson!

DOES IT WORK?
As I said, the tutorials are among the best I've seen, and so much better than any guitar tutor I had at school. The videos are the certainly the best guitar tuition videos I've come across so far (they’re much better than any of the cheesy ones you can buy off eBay or at the local bookstore).
Although I'm no expert, I found that the guitar guru’s
theory is just right, and his techniques do visibly quicken
up your learning progress. Obviously I'm not "on fire"
with my playing just yet- it’s early days. However, I've
picked up a lot of basics that I was struggling to understand
and apply before, such as how to co-ordinate your left and right
hands properly, and proper hand and finger positioning.
There were no glitches or problems running it all on my cheapo
little PC and the metronome and other jam along software are
top quality. As I said, I haven't exactly got Ginger Baker’s
timing just yet, but I'm improving each day and honestly I’m
finding it kind of fun using the jam along tracks - even though
they are a little cheesy for me!
When I tried some of the techniques such as the hammer on’s,
taps, and picking, I found them a little tricky at first. I’m
sure you'll probably need a little patience to try the advanced
stuff like palm muting and tapping etc – although they
sound so cool!

WHO'LL GET THE MOST OUT
OF IT?
Now I’ve been strumming along with this Jamorama
program for a while, I’d say that it's perfect for beginners
just like me; that’s anyone who’d like to stop
having to fit their life around, or shelling out too much
hard-earned cash for, private tutors.
The way the tutor teaches you is ideal for anyone who doesn't
have much too time on their hands. You’ll find the lessons
convenient and easy to follow along with, especially as you
won’t be mindlessly repeating stuff and doing boring
drills for hours every night.
Thirdly, because of the metronome and jam along tracks, I
would say that this is also a fantastic product for people
who want to learn all areas of guitar-playing, including the
timing and rhythm so that, just like me, they can eventually
start playing in a band properly and in time.

MINUS POINTS
On the minus side, although Jamorama’s great
for me, it’s not quite perfect for everyone
In the first place, this might not be ideal for you if you’re
a bit more advanced than me.
It works fine for beginners like me, but in about 6 months I
think I’ll need more advanced stuff.
Also, if you don’t have a good computer and you’ve
got lots of other things running, the software will run properly
without glitches, but it may slow down your PC.
Lastly, just like me you may find some of the jam tracks a bit
cheesy – this is not a major drawback as there are lots
to choose from.

PLUS
POINTS
On the plus side, there's a lot of promise for Jamorama.
These are things that really stood out for me so I felt I’d
got value for money:
Right from the start, it really does speed up your learning curve
considerably – most days I only put in half an hour and
I saw results within a couple of weeks!
Also, it gives you a fun time, so it’s nothing like the
cheesy videos that remind you of maths lessons or the tedious
books you find in bookshops. And, whatever you may think, this
is really important - you can easily switch off and drop the ball
if the learning gets boring.
After all, remember you’re doing this for fun so you want
to enjoy yourself.
From the stuff I've picked up so far, in no time at all the techniques
you'll learn will more than move you on from total beginner to
intermediate player. Yes, you may find the program less useful
when you get to intermediate, but what the heck! You'll be able
to kick butt by now!
It’s really worth pointing out that the videos make the
learning so much less frustrating. I was so pleasantly surprised
by this guy’s high levels of quality and teaching. His unique
approach to showing angles of his playing really makes the learning
"click" for me, and he’s obviously put real effort
into being different.
Lastly, there’s that really useful, and important touch
where it focuses on timing and rhythm. This helps improve your
accuracy and chances of doing pro work in the future or joining
a band, or even if you just want to sound consistent and pro like
to your family and friends. It includes complete guides and software
just to cover this aspect, so you feel there's a real sense of
value to this package…
…and you don't need to use lots of programs and guides
from all over the place to learn properly from A-Z, which means
it’s really handy and convenient.

CONCLUSION

To sum up, Jamorama is a great way to learn guitar for beginners
to intermediate, although probably not the best for advanced players.
As for the software – it’s very easy to use. Also
the clean, intuitive interface design is easy for you to use and
understand what's going on. I found this helps you to actually
stick to your learning curve without getting tied up in frustration
and confusion – the way some other guides make you feel.
Jamorama has some of the best quality videos I've seen online,
and so much better than some of the things you find in these smaller
membership sites. There’s definitely a lot of effort gone
into showing exactly what to do and how to do it - When it comes
to learning guitar from the absolute beginning.
Obviously, Jamorama is intended for people who want to speed
up their learning curve and ideally join a band. However, after
trying out the software and following the step by step videos,
I would say that this would be equally great for any guitarist
looking to learn a wider variety of skills (from hammer ons to
pull offs, palm muting to slides) whilst keeping their theory
tight and sounding consistent as well.
Also, it’s so different from expensive guitar tutors that
give you lots of boring theory and never guarantee any results
for you. What’s great about Jamorama is that you ARE guaranteed
to improve your guitar playing within 60 days, or you can get
your money back…
…which is something you won’t get from a private
tutor charging $60 per hour.
